Hi,

being a linux user for now so long I have no idea how tu use gpg with
outlook or outlook express. Many of my colleaguse use Windows (what a
shame) and I would like to help them to star with encrypting their
mails.

Any online manual etc. available?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Hello Dirk:

Perhaps while you are introducing your colleagues to GnuPG and
encryption, you could include Mozilla's Thunderbird and Enigmail.
This is a very fine seamless match with Windows indeed.

With all due respect to the poster, Thunderbird is truly shite and even
though Enigmail makes it almost worth using, it's still not. Not on Winbloze
and not on Linux. Thunderbird is truly SHITE.

Windows users are stupider than hell. Therefore the only choice is to get
them to use S/MIME which integrates well with MS Outlook. Even that will
boggle their feeble little minds, so be ready to spend some time coaching
and listening to their cries of frustration.

Not sure whether to laugh or agree...ok, I'll do both...LOL

Use Thunderbird if you want to make sure that it will work. Make sure
you change the default programs inside the browsers so that if someone
clicks on an email link, that Thunderbird is launched instead of
Outlook or OE.

Maybe, maybe not I don't care. I do not use WIN* anymore, so I have no
idea about it. My buddies may use any progrem they want to, but I want
to convince them to use encrypting.

Bullshit. I used to use Windows in the past, I AM NOT STUPID.

OK with s/mime. The rest is bullshit.

Sorry, hoor. Helaas heb ik geen idee van het Italiaans. Ik ben Duitser
en ik werk in Nederland, dus begrijp ik een beete Nederlands - maar
geen woord in het Italiaans.

Wat wil je ons zeggen?

I don't think that Outlook Express works with encryption. Your best
bet is enigmail or thunderbird. OE is a stripped and crippled version
for the home user and has little in the way of support for encryption.

Try the windows version of Claws-mail, it's buggy but fast and
interesting. It uses plugins for GnuPG, or PGP. You've got your
S/MIME, PGP/MIME, or PGP/Inline plugins depending on how you want your
signed mail to appear. There's a lot of work being done on Claws,
they have
a 'team.' I've been using it under Debian and think it's pretty good.

I use Icedove too, the Debian version of Thunderbird, and I don't
think it's scheitzer at all. I can't comment on the windows version.
In fact I'm using Icedove to write this letter.

Which - Outlook or Outlook Express ? They're very different animals -
it's not just a case of one being a cut-down version of the other.

There's an OE plugin at http://wald.intevation.org/projects/gpgoe
I've not used it, so can't say whether it works or not, or how well.

Or perhaps if your Windows using colleagues are determined to continue
with Outlook/OE they might want to take a look at some of the tools that
provide "encrypt/sign current window/clipboard" type of functions -
GPGKeys, GPGShell, WinPT etc.

If they're prepared to switch to a different email client, the
combination of Thunderbird and GPG/Enigmail works very well. Really, it
does.

If they wish to stick with OE, perhaps an older version of PGP would
suffice ? From the whatsnew.txt file that shipped with PGP Freeware
6.5.8

---x---
Support for Outlook 2000 and Outlook Express
5.0. This version of PGP adds support for
sending and receiving encrypted email in
Microsoft Outlook 2000 and Outlook Express 5.0.
---x---

Again I've not used these, so I can't comment on how well they do or
don't work, or whether it works with later versions of Outlook/OE.
