what I see.
Surely not Mephistopheles, our beloved Mephi, dead?
The anchor, the stabilizer, the voice of reason when groups went mad,
gone?
Please tell me that it isn't so.
I came to admire his wit, his humor, his logic, his integrity, his
kindness, his helpfulness, his honesty, and most of all his
intelligence.
I remain in awe at his mastery of the English language, and perhaps
other languages as well, for he seemed also fluent in French. Perhaps
those of you who knew him well know why this is so.
He made me laugh, he made me realize how little I know (and that was a
timely present), he taught me principles are more important than
expediency, and showed me the value of loyalty. He was the essence of
understanding and compassion.
I am aghast at the thought that all this could be lost to the world.
I am also aghast that the miserable tribute referenced is all that
remains of this great man. He inspired thousands on the Internet, he
must have inspired many more thousands in RL. His passing could not go
so poorly announced and on that basis I cling to the hope that he is
still alive.
We seek him here, we seek him there
We Norpsters seek him everywhere
Is he in heaven or is he in hell?
That damned elusive Mephistophel
He won't be in hell. As he often said, "I was raised by the Nuns by
hand."
I sincerely hope that he will pop back in here one day after a nasty
bout with bronchitis or something similar (the only sort of hell he
could possibly know).
If not, then my life, and the lives of countless others, will be
hugely poorer.
In great sorrow but also in great hope
Raffles
Hello Raffles.
I am in full agreement that the lasting Tribute comments were woefully
inadequate, but I believe they are just a mirror automated product of
the family announcement in the local newspaper in the Marriage /births/
deaths page, I have added my own thoughts and memories as the site
invites, and maybe it is down to his friends to correct the
shortcomings, and do the lad a bonny farewell.
Sadly the additional pieces of the puzzle I have learned since Monday
have merely added weight to my conclusion, I would love to hope for his
return but I am even more certain today that our Mephi has left this
world.

<spitting on "mephi's grave"Very sad news folks, Many of you have asked fondly about the absence
of our chirp'y old friend and number 1 Norpster Mephi
Ever full of fun, sharp of wit and one of the nicest fellows I ever
rubbed shoulders with on usenet
I am not %100 certain but sadly pretty sure, and would love him to
prove me wrong!
